Qatar Charity Foundation Lays Foundation Stone for Sheikh Eid bin Mohammed Al Thani Educational Complex in Sri Lanka

In a qualitative step to enhance the education sector, and in cooperation with the late Sheikh Eid bin Mohammed Al Thani Charitable Foundation, Qatar Charity Foundation laid the foundation stone for the Sheikh Eid bin Mohammed Al Thani Educational Complex in the Trincomalee area of Sri Lanka. The project is fully funded by the endowment of the late Sheikh Eid bin Mohammed Al Thani.

The ceremony was attended by prominent local figures, officials from the Ministry of Education, and representatives from Qatar Charity’s office in Sri Lanka.

The project, to be implemented within Fathima Balika Maha Vidyalaya (Fathima Girls’ School) in Trincomalee, comes as part of Qatar Charity’s ongoing efforts to support sustainable development in underprivileged communities worldwide.

The project covers an area of approximately 1,560 square meters with a total value of about QAR 2.4 million. The new educational complex will include four main buildings, comprising 12 classrooms, a large hall, a library, a science laboratory, administrative and teachers’ rooms, as well as a service building, a water well, and other essential facilities. The project aims to improve the learning environment and address existing educational challenges.

In her speech, Zeina Al-Munawara Mohamed Naleem, Director of Education in the Kenya region, expressed deep gratitude for this generous initiative, emphasizing that the project will significantly enhance the quality of education and alleviate the current challenges faced by the school.

The school principal, Abdul Farid Larif, described the project as “the beginning of a new chapter in the journey of education and student service.”

Mahmoud Abu Khalifa, Director of Qatar Charity’s office in Sri Lanka, confirmed that this initiative is part of a series of educational projects undertaken by Qatar Charity, including the construction of schools, science laboratories, and provision of educational supplies, in addition to interventions in health, food security, housing, water, and economic empowerment, in line with national sustainable development plans.

Student Fatima Asra said:
“This project will bring a major transformation to academic activities, providing us with a safe, comfortable, and stimulating learning environment. We are grateful for this initiative, which will make our school more beautiful and inspiring.”

Other students also expressed their excitement and gratitude, saying they are “enthusiastic and thankful for a beautiful school building that makes learning enjoyable and engaging for everyone.”
