Dr. Maya Morsy, Minister of Social Solidarity and Vice President of the Egyptian Red Crescent, launched a diverse humanitarian aid convoy provided by the Egyptian Red Crescent to support the brotherly Sudanese people and the Sudanese Red Crescent. The launch took place from the headquarters of the Egyptian Red Crescent’s General Center.

The launch was attended by Dr. Amal Emam, Executive Director of the Egyptian Red Crescent, a delegation from the Sudanese Red Crescent, as well as male and female volunteers of the Egyptian Red Crescent.

The humanitarian aid convoy included approximately 70 tons of diverse relief supplies, consisting of food parcels, medical supplies, and shelter items such as mattresses, blankets, winter covers, and other relief necessities. These items were prepared in accordance with priorities coordinated with the Sudanese Red Crescent.

The Minister of Social Solidarity emphasized that this convoy is a gift from the Egyptian people to the brotherly Sudanese people. She noted that it is the first land convoy to travel a distance of nearly 2,000 kilometers to reach Sudanese territory, and it is expected to arrive on New Year’s Eve, accompanied by a delegation of Egyptian Red Crescent volunteers.

Dr. Maya Morsy pointed out that there are directives from His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to continue moving forward in supporting the response for the brotherly Sudanese people. She stressed that the humanitarian response to the Sudanese crisis has become the longest since the outbreak of the crisis, lasting to date approximately 990 days.

She explained that launching the convoy to support the brotherly Sudanese people from the “House of Humanity” carries an important message affirming the humanitarian and relief role of the Egyptian Red Crescent, and represents a continuation of its historic role in delivering humanitarian and relief assistance to sister countries, as well as the efforts of its volunteers, who number around 65,000 male and female volunteers.

Dr. Maya Morsy added that the convoy represents a message of Egyptian support to the brotherly Sudanese people in their efforts to overcome the critical phase they are currently experiencing. She affirmed that this convoy is neither the first nor the last in supporting Sudan until the current crisis is overcome. Since 2023, three aid shipments totaling more than 1,000 tons of humanitarian assistance have been sent by the Egyptian Red Crescent to the Sudanese Red Crescent by sea. These shipments included medical aid, livelihood supplies, medical equipment, blankets, mattresses, personal protective equipment, and food parcels. Today, Egypt continues its humanitarian and relief support for the brotherly Sudanese people, as part of Egypt’s ongoing support for sister nations in times of crisis.

The Minister of Social Solidarity confirmed that the Egyptian Red Crescent has played an important role in supporting and assisting the brotherly Sudanese people since the outbreak of the crisis in 2023 until now. The assistance provided included relief aid, food support, personal hygiene kits, as well as services such as facilitating transportation between governorates, restoring family links through phone and internet calls and mobile charging, in addition to providing healthcare services, medical examinations, psychological support, and equipping clinics at border crossings.
