Behind the EDEX Military Exhibition

By Major General Hossam Salama

The EDEX Military Exhibition is one of the most prominent international defense shows, bringing together leading companies and institutions from the military industry worldwide. It serves as a platform to showcase the latest technological advancements in weaponry, combat systems, and defense and security solutions. The exhibition’s role goes beyond commercial or demonstration purposes—it is a strategic platform for exchanging expertise, building partnerships, transferring technology, and affirming the international presence of participating countries in military manufacturing.

At the heart of the event, the Egyptian pavilion stands out as one of the most prominent, displaying over seventy diverse military products, including about eighteen new items revealed for the first time. The exhibits range from light and medium weapons to armored vehicles, as well as modern electronic, reconnaissance, and communication systems—all reflecting a significant leap in the level of national military manufacturing.

Notably, Egypt’s arms industry has advanced considerably. It is no longer limited to assembly or licensed production; it now has a clear and independent footprint in design, production, and development, with many weapons entirely manufactured locally. This achievement reaffirms that Egypt is steadily building a comprehensive defense industrial system capable of meeting the armed forces’ needs and competing in regional markets.

This transformation carries important strategic messages both domestically and internationally. Displaying advanced, locally made weapons demonstrates the evolution of the Egyptian army’s defense doctrine—from merely defending borders to a fully capable force able to protect national security inside and outside Egypt. It also signals that the Egyptian army is no longer dependent on any foreign military power and now possesses full sovereign decision-making, participating strongly among the world’s major armies.

These developments also indicate that Egypt is capable of developing new weapons and upgrading existing ones regularly, enabling it to handle complex conflicts with powerful and advanced capabilities. This progress also reassures allies, ensuring that cooperation with the Egyptian army means working alongside a highly capable and supportive military force.

Equally important is the advancement of the Egyptian soldier, now trained to operate the latest combat systems and advanced military technology, making the EDEX display not just about weapons but also a testament to the skill and competence of Egyptian soldiers.

Finally, observing the EDEX exhibition and the Egyptian pavilion, and witnessing the progress in military and civilian industries, evokes pride, honor, and belonging among Egyptian citizens. It reassures them that the future—God willing—holds greater strength, higher status, and stronger stability for Egypt.
