Afroland Foundation Organizes Discussion Session on Green Economy with the Ministry of Environment and Giza Governorate

The Afroland Foundation for Sustainable Development organized an extensive discussion session titled “The Green Economy and Its Impact on Productive Sectors in Addressing Climate Change”, attended by a group of experts and specialists, representatives from the Ministry of Environment and Giza Governorate, several civil society organizations, and media professionals.

The session was moderated by Hazem Al-Mallah, journalist and Executive Director of Afroland Foundation for Sustainable Development. The discussion focused on mechanisms for transitioning to a green economy and its role in supporting sustainable development while reducing the impact of climate change on various productive sectors.

Dr. Tharwat Embaby, representing the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, stated that Afroland implements several projects aligned with Egypt Vision 2030, aiming to leverage national plans and programs addressing climate change. He highlighted the foundation’s tomato drying project in Luxor, as well as development initiatives in West Minya, Wadi El Natrun, and the Sphinx area.

The session concluded with several recommendations, including:

Implementing carbon footprint measures to enhance collaboration with donors and European markets.

Expanding the use of solar energy in programs and projects, taking advantage of Egypt’s year-round sunny climate.

Raising community awareness of green economy and climate change issues prior to enacting related legislation.

Promoting contract farming to support farmers and increase sustainable production.

Working on legislation to reduce emissions.

Issuing a new cooperatives law allowing agricultural associations to operate on larger scales, in line with modern requirements.
